  • Re-read then review.
    • Read out loudly slowly.
    • Read backwards word by word to review sentence structure.
    • Dump into notepad or another plain text editor in a different font  and then review.
    • Finally, when you have reviewed it thoroughly, ask someone else to review it.
  • Spellcheck
  • Use grammar check but use your eyeballs, too!
    • Look for ands/ors/thats strung together as well as sentences with many commas. Avoid run on sentences.
    • Fragments. (Ha!)
    • Pay attention to language
      • Are you using appropriate pronouns and language? Is the tone appropriate for the audience?
      • Do your nouns and verbs agree?
      • Is your language active?
      • Did you use the right word? Spell check is not going to catch if you used write for right.
      • Be consistent in language; spell out acronyms the first time they are used.
  • Consider your style.
    • Avoid repetition when possible.
    • Consider your target audience.
